To remain in tune with the current generation of triple-A productions, The Evil Within 2 features a more refined visual component, which is especially noticeable when it comes to character animations, lip-sync and environmental lighting. You can also perform quick stealth kills and use a variety of items, so you are rarely forced to follow a repetitive pattern from level-to-level, which is obviously good news. You can use stealth much more efficiently and in many more situations now, which allows you to stay hidden whenever bad things are lurking around. Better stealth and survival mechanicsĪs mentioned before, the bar has been raised the most in regards to the stealth and survival elements that are part of the experience. Obviously, things get pretty hectic and scary in STEM, so it’s up to you to make sure that the detective makes it out alive. Hence, he is given a chance to rescue his daughter this time around, but in order to do that he must enter the strange world of STEM one last time. To begin with, the story revolves around detective Sebastian Castellanos once more, but this time it would appear that there’s some hope for him. There’s a clear evolution in the graphics department as well, but don’t expect some kind of revolution either. Hence, the survival elements are more nuanced and varied this time around, unlike the rather crude and often irrelevant ones found in the first episode. The Evil Within 2 is a sequel in every sense of the word, which means that the story is continued from where it was left off and the gameplay mechanics have been expanded while keeping the original ones in mind. Granted, the story itself was not the kind you would remember for years to come, but that can be excused in these particular circumstances. It was also a triple-A production with state-of-the-art graphics, animations and sound effects, which helped a lot with the overall atmosphere. The first episode of The Evil Within series was well-received by survival-horror fans, mainly because it got the horror part pretty well.
